Ukraine sees no Belarusian troop buildup — but it may attack amid ongoing joint drills

As of now, no unusual activity has been recorded at the border with Belarus. However, this does not mean that there are no threats to Ukraine from that country, informs Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
"The situation is drastically different from the border with Russia. We do not observe any unusual actions on the other side. But, of course, this should not be interpreted as meaning there is no threat from Belarus," Demchenko said.
He noted that this direction remains threatening for Ukraine. It will continue to be so until Belarus stops supporting Russia in waging war against our country.
"There is currently no formation or group on Belarusian territory that has been created or is being formed and poses a threat to our state. At the same time, intelligence units are monitoring the situation closely to see if anything changes. Right now, our attention is focused on the announced joint military exercises," the spokesperson concluded.
Zelenskyy on a possible offensive from Belarusian territory
A few weeks ago, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Belarusian Lukashenko's regime fears provocations and tries to hold military drills far from the Ukrainian border.
This statement was made in response to a question about the risk of a Russian offensive against Zhytomyr, Volyn, and Chernihiv regions from Belarus, under the cover of joint exercises.
"I think Lukashenko himself is afraid that we in Ukraine will consider the presence of the contingent at the exercises as preparation for offensive actions. He understands, after our corresponding steps in the Kursk direction, what we are capable of if we feel a threat," Zelenskyy said.
