Poland is actively cooperating with Ukraine on defense. In particular, after joining the ballistic coalition, the country is considering a partnership on drone technology, according to Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski at a briefing for Ukrainian journalists in Warsaw.
Defense cooperation with Poland
Sikorski was asked about Ukraine's military cooperation with Poland and the prospects for signing a Drone Deal.
"Ukraine, which buys Polish drones, for example, from WB Electronics, and the Polish defense industry are both interested in various joint projects," the minister said.
He recalled that Ukraine receives and also purchases Polish Piorun surface-to-air missile systems.
"I personally was at the front near Bakhmut, where Polish Krab self-propelled howitzers operated by Ukraine's 26th Brigade were firing American Excalibur shells. We were the country that was the first to start supplying tanks and fighter jets," the Polish foreign minister said.
Ukraine's unique expertise
Sikorski noted that Ukraine has unique expertise in drones.
"So, from our side, there is every kind of support for Polish businesses—both state-owned and private—to take part in this," the minister assured.
Poland holds an interest
Sikorski recalled that during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's latest meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Poland announced it would join the ballistic coalition.
"After all, Polish companies have technological capabilities that seem likely to come in handy," he said.
According to Sikorski, more than 3,000 Polish companies currently operate in Ukraine, though not in the drone sector.
"Of these, 300 began operating after the start of the full-scale invasion," the Polish foreign minister added.
As reported, Sikorski said Poland is confident that NATO's Article 5 will be invoked when necessary. This could happen if Russia commits an act of aggression.
In addition, Poles should prepare for a potential Russian attack. Sikorski noted that it would be wise to stock up on supplies, prepare evac backpacks, and find shelters near homes.
