The Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's Parliament) will convene urgently next week to consider a draft law on the independence of NABU and SAPO, according to Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak, MP Oleksii Honcharenko, and information from sources.

According to Zhelezniak, Parliament will be convened next week to repeal the controversial provisions that curtailed the powers of NABU and SAPO. Ukrainian MP mentioned plans to register a draft law to cancel the scandalous provisions. Forty-five signatures have already been collected in support.

For his part, Honcharenko confirmed that the Verkhovna Rada will convene next week. The MPs will consider the draft law from President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on ensuring the independence of NABU and SAPO.

According to RBC-Ukraine’s sources in Parliament, there is still no set date for reviewing the draft law.

Zelenskyy's promise

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that a presidential draft law would be submitted to Parliament to strengthen the independence of anti-corruption bodies.

This came the day after NABU and SAPO's independence was curtailed by a controversial law.

In response to the new legislation, the European Union emphasized that Ukraine's accession to the bloc depends on the independence of its anti-corruption institutions.
