Ukrainian strike on Russian strategic aviation is unique. It has clearly raised the cost of the war for the Russians, said Kaja Kallas, the EU's top diplomat.

Last weekend, Kaja Kallas emphasized that Ukrainian drone strikes were "rewriting military history."

She pointed out that drones costing just thousands of dollars destroyed aircraft worth millions.

"So, I think this is clearly bringing the cost up also for the Russians, again, so that Russians would also want peace," added the EU's top diplomat.

Commenting on the possibility of retaliation by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kallas emphasized that Russia has constantly targeted Ukrainian civilians with drones and missiles. However, she stressed that the West's response now should be to apply even greater pressure on Russia to make it seek peace as well.

Drone attack on airfields

On Sunday, June 1, several airfields in Russia were under attack.

It later emerged that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) targeted Russian strategic aviation with drones, reportedly hitting 41 enemy aircraft.

Meanwhile, according to sources cited by RBC-Ukraine, Russia attempted to downplay the losses by replacing the destroyed bombers at the airfields.
