The local ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia has already yielded the first results: residents of Kherson can, for the first time in a long while, go out into the streets without fear and enjoy life without constant Russian attacks, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets stated.

According to the ombudsman, he and his team are not only monitoring compliance with the ceasefire but also talking to local residents.

Locals admit that for each of them, the single most important thing right now is the return of peace.

"The ceasefire has had an impact on the city itself. Kherson, which was constantly under shelling, has come back to life. There are more people on the streets, and city life has noticeably revived. People can go outside without fear, take walks and enjoy the autumn sunshine. What is ordinary everyday life for some people is now the greatest wish of Kherson region residents," Lubinets emphasized.

He noted that, as of 12:00 p.m. on October 28, Ukraine and Russia were continuing to fully comply with the agreements.

The ombudsman recalled that the ceasefire began on October 27 at 3:00 a.m. Kyiv time (4:00 a.m. Moscow time) and will remain in effect until 10:59 p.m. on November 1.

"This will allow us to carry out a humanitarian mission that we are conducting jointly with Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova, with the mediation and coordination of US First Lady Melania Trump," Lubinets noted.

He also stressed that people are at the heart of all negotiations, agreements and diplomatic efforts.

"Their lives, safety and hope for a peaceful future. And it is for their sake that we must continue this work," the ombudsman concluded.

Local ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

On October 7, a ceasefire was introduced near the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region to facilitate a humanitarian mission.

The mission involves delivering humanitarian aid to civilians and preparing for the evacuation of local residents. The ceasefire is set to remain in effect until 10:59 p.m. on November 1.

Later, the ceasefire zone was expanded beyond the town to ensure the safety of humanitarian convoys. The announcement was made by US First Lady Melania Trump.
