Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, held a conversation today, January 5, with his Norwegian counterpart Bjorn Arild Gram, according to the page of Ukraine's defense department chief on the social media platform X.

According to Umerov, they discussed events on the front line, as well as Russia's recent massive combined aerial attack on Ukraine.

The minister thanked Norway for its contribution to strengthening Ukrainian air defense and the development of maritime coalition potential.

He mentioned that Ukraine and Norway would further their cooperation in the defense industry.

Norwegian aid to Ukraine

Recently, the Norwegian government decided to permit direct sales of weapons and defense-related products from Norwegian defense industries to Ukrainian defense authorities. This policy change came into effect on January 1, 2024.

In October, Norway announced financial aid for demining efforts in Ukraine, amounting to $18.5 million.

Later, Norway provided 84 million euros to Norwegian organizations assisting Ukrainians.
