Ukraine's MFA on far-right gains in Europe: Ready for any scenario

Against the backdrop of gains by far-right political forces across Europe, Ukraine is ready to work with any government elected by its citizens, according to a statement by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi during a briefing.
According to him, the coming period will be packed with elections. Tykhyi estimated that more than half of EU citizens will take part in various electoral processes next year, with elections scheduled in nine European countries.
The Foreign Ministry believes it is important that Ukraine does not become an issue that fuels divisions or political polarization within European states.
"In our view, support for Ukraine is actually a unifying issue. It is not something that should be politicized in general," Tykhyi said.
He stressed that supporting Ukraine is in the interests of the European Union and Europe as a whole. According to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ukrainian troops are holding back Russia’s advance, and assistance to Kyiv is a contribution to the security of European countries.
"Therefore, every act of support is, in essence, an investment in the security, peace and stability of European states themselves," Tykhyi said.
Ukraine ready to work with any government
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also stressed that Kyiv has no intention of interfering in the domestic political processes of other countries. Ukraine will work with whichever political forces and government representatives are elected by citizens.
"We will work with whoever the people of a given country choose. That is our general approach," Tykhyi explained.
According to him, Ukrainian diplomacy is prepared for different scenarios regardless of the outcome of upcoming elections in European countries.
At the same time, Tykhyi drew attention to the situation in Germany. He emphasized that the recent elections in question were regional elections. Germany’s federal states do not determine the country’s foreign policy — that is the responsibility of the federal government in Berlin.
Therefore, in his view, statements made by party representatives at the regional level should not be interpreted as reflecting the foreign policy course of Germany as a whole.
Foreign Ministry responds to calls for negotiations with Russia
Tykhyi also commented on statements by representatives of far-right forces calling for an end to support for Ukraine and a shift toward peace negotiations.
According to him, such calls should be addressed not to Kyiv, but to Moscow.
"This call should be directed to Moscow because Ukraine is ready for negotiations," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
He recalled that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Tykhyi, Ukraine is ready for such a meeting at any convenient time and at any neutral venue.
At the same time, Kyiv does not consider Russia or Belarus to be neutral venues. Tykhyi also said that negotiations could take place with US President Donald Trump acting as a mediator.
"So these calls should not be addressed to us, but to those who do not want to end the war — that is Moscow," Tykhyi concluded.
Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the victory of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Saxony-Anhalt would have consequences not only for Germany but also for the international situation.
In particular, he warned of potential risks to continued support for Ukraine.
