Ukraine's intelligence cyberattacked Russian nuclear weapons development company
The DIU cyber specialists together with the hacker group “BO Team” worked productively near Chelyabinsk. Thanks to the work of the specialists, the work of the enterprise that develops nuclear weapons for Russia was paralyzed.
According to the DIU, hackers successfully attacked Vega, the only provider in Snezhinsk, Chelyabinsk region of Russia. As a result, its 1173 switches and 10 servers were disabled.
“The information on Vega's servers was destroyed. A number of strategic enterprises in the city have been without Internet and communication services for almost a week,” the intelligence service said.
Among them is VNIITF (All-Russian Research Institute of Technical Physics). This is a Russian nuclear munitions developer that was connected only to the Vega provider.
“A successful attack in the aggressor's cyberspace allowed the obtaining of personal data of employees and an array of other documents of the said plant, which is under sanctions,” the DIU said.
The intelligence officials noted that the information obtained, in particular, allows for the establishment of mechanisms for circumventing sanctions and the persons involved.
“The cyber operation also resulted in the threat of disruption of the aggressor's state defense order, as evidenced by comments in local media publics in Snezhinsk,” the DIU added.
In late July, Ukrainian intelligence carried out a large-scale cyberattack on Russia's financial sector and government resources. The attack lasted for a week.
The representative of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Andrii Yusov, said that "there will be more to come".
The attack targeted several companies in Russia that support the war against Ukraine.
