Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence has identified foreign-made enterprises and equipment used by Russia’s defense industry to manufacture ballistic missiles, according to the press service of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence.

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence has published data on around 30 pieces of foreign-made industrial equipment used by companies involved in Russia’s ballistic weapons production supply chain on its War&Sanctions portal.

It notes that Russia’s military-industrial complex remains heavily dependent on foreign technology. Despite all its efforts, Russia is still unable to replace industrial equipment from global manufacturers with domestically produced alternatives.

Russian enterprises use industrial equipment manufactured in China, Germany, Taiwan, the US, Türkiye, Switzerland, and Italy to produce ballistic missiles and their components, including altimeters, aerodynamic control surfaces, gyroscopes, and other parts.

The growing number of Chinese machine tools and machining centers, including five-axis machines, is particularly notable. It is important to note that Chinese machines use components manufactured in Europe, Japan, and Taiwan, including CNC systems, servo drives, high-precision spindles and bearings, measuring and rotary systems, linear guides, and equipment for thermal stabilization and machining process control.

In particular, Russia uses the GX-650 five-axis universal machining center manufactured by Hyper Machine Tool. It is used by the Votkinsk Plant, which manufactures 9M723 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and the missile component of the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile. Russia also uses Shtral turning and milling machining centers involved in manufacturing electronic equipment for Iskander-M missiles.

In August, Ukraine imposed four sanctions packages against Russia targeting several parts of the Russian system that supports its aggression against Ukraine.

We also reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted sanctions against entities and individuals involved in helping Russia manufacture ballistic missiles, as well as supplying Russia’s military-industrial complex with equipment and components for drones, military aircraft, armored vehicles, and missile systems.
