The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reports that the Russian army's losses in the Kursk direction have exceeded 60,000 personnel. Fighting in this direction continues.

Since the start of the Kursk operation on August 6, 2024, the Russian army's losses in the operational zone of the Kursk military grouping are as follows:

  • Personnel losses: 62,400;
  • Irrecoverable losses: 25,200;
  • Sanitary losses: 36,200;

The General Staff noted that another 983 Russian soldiers have been captured.

"Thanks to this, exchanges have taken place, allowing hundreds of our soldiers to return home from Russian captivity," the military added.

Meanwhile, it has become known that the total losses of the North Korean army in the Kursk direction have exceeded four and a half thousand, including both killed and wounded.

Fighting in the Kursk region

The Ukrainian Defense Forces' operation in the Kursk region began on August 6, 2024, and has now lasted more than eight months.

From the first days of the offensive, Ukrainian troops successfully advanced and took control of more than a hundred settlements, including Russia's Sudzha.

In the fall of last year, Russian forces attempted to launch an offensive in the Kursk region. However, as noted by Western media, it failed.

In recent months, the Russians have made several active attempts to push Ukrainian forces out of the region. As a result, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were forced to retreat to more advantageous positions. Due to this, Ukraine also lost control over the city of Sudzha.

Since the beginning of the month, Russia has been spreading growing rumors about the alleged encirclement of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region. In particular, Russians have circulated a fake video showing Ukrainian soldiers.

Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin even claimed the "liberation" of the Kursk region. However, according to the General Staff, the defensive operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the designated areas of Kursk continues.
