Ukraine's General Staff confirms strike on Atlas oil depot in Russia's Rostov region
On the night of August 28, the Ukrainian military struck two Russian oil depots, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
One of the strikes hit the Atlas oil storage facility in the Rostov region of Russia, causing a fire in the facility's vertical tanks. Fire trains were used to extinguish the fire.
The operation was carried out by units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine in cooperation with other components of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
There have also been reports of strikes on the Zenit oil depot in the Kirov region and the field artillery depot of the Russian troops' Zapad grouping in the Voronezh region of Russia. Details on the consequences of these strikes are currently being clarified.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to take measures to undermine the military and economic potential of the Russian occupiers and to stop Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.
Attack on Russian Atlas oil depot
The Atlas oil refinery, a part of the Federal Agency for State Reserves in the Southern Federal District, supplies oil products to the Russian armed forces. According to Russian media reports, in August 2020, the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Russian State Reserve held joint training exercises at the plant as part of the Caucasus 2020 maneuvers.
During these demonstration exercises, three methods of delivering petroleum products for the army's needs were practiced: road, rail, and pipeline.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine's sources said that the Atlas oil depot was hit by drones on the night of August 28 as a result of an operation by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine together with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
