The US Chargé d'Affaires ad interim in Ukraine, John Ginkel, was invited today, July 2, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to discuss the importance of US military assistance to Ukraine, the MFA press service reports.

The key topic of the conversation with the American diplomat was US military assistance and defense cooperation between the two countries against the backdrop of Russia's escalating aggression and terror against Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian side emphasized that any delay or slowing down in supporting Ukraine's defense capabilities would only encourage the aggressor to continue war and terror, rather than seek peace," the Foreign Ministry's statement said.

Russia not only rejects a complete and unconditional ceasefire, which Ukraine agreed to back on March 11, but also continues to escalate air terror against Ukrainian cities and communities, killing civilians, and carrying out attacks on the battlefield.

Furthermore, the parties discussed ongoing consultations on defense supplies, which are currently underway at all levels, as well as further contacts between Ukraine and the United States, which will help find mutually beneficial solutions to strengthen Ukrainian defense capability and increase pressure on Russia to advance peace efforts.

What precedes this

Earlier, reports indicated that the Pentagon suspended deliveries to Ukraine of many types of missiles, including systems for both air defense and the front line. The order to suspend the supplies was issued by Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth. This happened amid concerns about US armed forces' stockpiles.

Hegseth issued the directive to postpone shipments a few weeks after he published a memorandum requiring an audit of US ammunition reserves, which had been depleted after years of American arms supplies to Ukraine, as well as nearly two years of military operations in the Middle East.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly confirmed the suspension of some types of weapons deliveries to Ukraine. According to her, such a decision aims at "putting US interests first."

Despite this, according to US media, the Pentagon continues to provide President Donald Trump with options for military assistance to Ukraine that will not impact the defense capability of the United States.
