The Pentagon is continuing to offer President Donald Trump military aid options for Ukraine that do not compromise US defense capabilities, Axios reports, citing Elbridge Colby, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy.

"The Pentagon continues to provide the President with robust options to continue military aid to Ukraine," Colby said.

He added that the Department of Defense constantly reviews and adjusts its approach to supporting Ukraine while maintaining the US military's readiness to fulfill the White House's defense priorities.

Background

Earlier reports said the Pentagon had halted deliveries of several types of missiles to Ukraine, including systems for air defense and front-line use. The order to suspend shipments came from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The move followed concerns about US weapons stockpiles.

Hegseth issued the delay a few weeks after releasing a memorandum directing an audit of US ammunition reserves, which had been depleted by years of arms shipments to Ukraine and nearly two years of military operations in the Middle East.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly confirmed that certain weapons deliveries to Ukraine had been paused. She said, "This decision was made to put America's interests first."

Sources also said the initial decision to suspend part of the aid pledged under the Biden administration was made in early June. However, it is only taking effect now.
