US President Donald Trump's so-called peace plan for Ukraine does not yet exist and is still being developed. The Munich Security Conference will discuss the parameters of peace, according to Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.
The spokesperson denied media reports that Trump's peace plan was allegedly ready and that US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg would present it at the Munich conference.
“If General Kellogg had to deny himself that he would present the plan at the Munich conference, I think this is an indicator that this is not a problem of the media, but a problem of the sources that report it,” Tykhyi said.
According to him, most of the reports about the alleged peace plan come not from the United States, Ukraine, or Europe, but from the Russians. He called for a calmer attitude to such information.
“There will be contacts with Keith Kellogg, with Waltz, with other representatives at various levels of the US administration, during which the things you are asking about will be determined. Is there any finalized plan as of now? There is no such plan, to our understanding. There are certain parameters, there are works, there is development,” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
Tykhyi added that while all this is still in the works, it is too early to report on the results. According to him, some of these parameters will be agreed upon during meetings with the US representative.
“We do not expect that there (at the Munich Security Conference - ed.) will be a presentation of some kind of a completed peace plan. There will be a discussion of the actual parameters for achieving a just peace. Ukraine will present its position. Perhaps this is why Munich is so important - it is an opportunity to convey Ukraine's position on this issue at the highest level. It will be conveyed,” he added.
Kellogg's visit to Ukraine
Ukraine had been expecting a visit by US Special Representative Keith Kellogg even before Donald Trump's inauguration. However, the trip was postponed due to legal formalities.
Kellogg will attend the Munich Security Conference on February 14-16. After that, Kellogg is expected to return to Ukraine. According to RBC-Ukraine's sources, the US Special Representative's visit is scheduled for February 20.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also attend the Munich Security Conference. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that contacts between Ukraine and the United States are expected to continue next week.
