Only the Ukrainian people have the right to decide who will lead their country and when, especially while it is at war, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said.
Ukraine’s top diplomat was among the first to respond to US President Donald Trump’s controversial remarks.
Earlier today, Trump publicly called on Ukrainians to elect a new leader to replace Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The US president said it was time for Ukraine to get a new president.
Trump also explained that he had made the proposal because he was unhappy with Zelenskyy’s policies and his alleged unwillingness to reach a deal with Russia.
The US president claimed that the Ukrainian leader had several opportunities to end the war but had failed to take advantage of them.
"I suggest Ukraine get a new leader, who can make a deal... Because he (Zelenskyy – ed.) could make many deals, but for some reason, he never does," the US president told reporters.

Commenting on Trump’s remarks, Sybiha reminded the US president of several key points.
"President Zelenskyy leads our nation in a time of war — a war for independence, freedom, and dignity. He has the support of the Ukrainian people, and they have the right to decide," the foreign minister stressed.
Sybiha argued that statements from abroad only confirmed that Zelenskyy was doing his job well and therefore deserved support.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Trump had come up with a new reason for the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
