Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers, together with reconnaissance troops, destroyed a Russian army regiment and captured a significant number of troops during joint assault operations in the Lyman direction. A video was posted online by the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The operation was carried out by the 3rd Army Corps together with the Defense Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine.
Ukrainian units managed to level the front line and improve their tactical position in the combat zone.
The actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine limited the Russian ability to maneuver and created the conditions for further decisions in that direction.
The commander of the 3rd Army Corps, General Andriy Biletsky, noted that joint actions with the intelligence yielded tangible results.
“Together with the HUR, we achieved an operational-tactical result in the Lyman direction. This is a continuation of the tradition dating back to the liberation of Moshchun and the breakthrough of helicopters to Mariupol - to lend each other a brotherly shoulder. I am grateful for the exemplary cooperation,” he said.
In turn, Viktor Torkotiuk, commander of the HUR special forces unit Artan, emphasized the role of the personnel.
“This is primarily the merit of the fighters and combat commanders who find solutions to any task,” he stressed.
Situation in the Lyman direction
In November, Russian troops intensified their offensive in the Lyman direction. Large groups of infantry are trying to break through Ukrainian defenses, infiltrate the city, and reach the railway station.
Heavy fighting continues in this direction, and the Russians continue their attacks.
As stated in the ISW report, the Russian army command currently considers Lyman a priority target for a future offensive on Sloviansk.
According to the General Staff, over the past day, December 17, the enemy attacked 15 times in the Lyman direction, trying to advance near the settlements of Novovodiane, Kolodiaz, Drobysheve, Novoselivka, and towards the settlement of Cherneshyna.
