Ukraine’s deep strike on Russian rear sees destruction of two Pion artillery systems
Two Pion self-propelled artillery systems were destroyed by Ukrainian Forces Near Horlivka. The occupied city is located 25 km from the front line and is considered a deep rear area for Russian forces, according to Khortytsky Wind.
"Two powerful 2S7 Pion self-propelled artillery systems were destroyed by the battalion of unmanned aerial systems," the report states.
According to military sources, this occurred deep in enemy territory, 25 km from the front line near the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Horlivka.
"The enemy’s equipment, along with ammunition, was destroyed by precise sniper-like drops from a Nemesis bomber drone. The strike was coordinated by aerial reconnaissance from the united assault brigade of the National Police, Lut," the military added.
What's known about the Pion artillery system
The 2S7 Pion is a 203-mm self-propelled artillery system capable of striking targets up to 47.5 km away.
The Pion is intended to suppress rear areas and destroy critical targets, including nuclear-capable enemy assets.
Situation around Horlivka
Horlivka is a city in the Donetsk region, temporarily occupied by Russian forces in 2014. Since then, the occupiers have turned the city into a hub for equipment and troops moving toward the front line.
Ukrainian Defense Forces continuously target areas where Russian resources are concentrated in Horlivka. Additionally, partisan groups conduct reconnaissance in the city.
Recently, partisans located a secret deployment site of the occupiers in Horlivka, where numerous invaders from Buryatia were found.
