Ukraine's cyberattack hits Russia's Tatarstan: Internet and communication targeted
Cyber specialists from the Defense Intelligence are conducting a large-scale attack on internet providers and telecommunication operators in Russia's Tatarstan, according to RBC-Ukraine sources.
The main target of the Ukrainian intelligence attack was the communication networks in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone. It houses more than 30 productions, including those related to the Russian defense-industrial complex.
Consequences
According to sources, this cyberattack caused internet disruption in Tatarstan and Kazan and operation trouble for MTS mobile operator, as well as smaller telecommunications operators like PJSC Tattelecom and Ufanet.
Moreover, this operation resulted in internet outages and issues with various applications. Apps for door entry systems were affected too.

Alabuga is a special economic zone (SEZ) of industrial-production type in Tatarstan covering an area of 3903.5 hectares. As of 2019, Alabuga was the largest industrial-production type special economic zone in Russia, contributing 59% of the total revenue and 34% of tax revenues from all SEZs in the Russian Federation, attracting 39% of private investments in Russian SEZs.
Not the first cyberattack
The DI cyber specialists regularly carry out operations within Russian territory.
In late April, the Ukrainian hacker group BO Team and the DI conducted a cyberattack on the Russian company JSC MTT, a subsidiary of PJSC MTS.
In late February, hackers targeted Russia's largest internet portal Mail.ru, resulting in some users losing access to their accounts.
