Ukraine's cyber forces hit Russia's key telecom provider in Siberia – Sources

Cyber specialists of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), with the support of cyber activists, successfully attacked one of the largest Internet providers in Siberia, Orion Telecom, according to RBC-Ukraine's sources in intelligence.
The networks of Orion Telecom were actively used by Russian security forces to carry out aggression against Ukraine. Currently, a closed city that specializes in uranium mining has been left without communication.

Since early morning, local public pages in Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Bratsk, and Abakan have been filled with complaints about the lack of Internet and television. In particular, a letter allegedly from Ukrainian hackers addressed to the Internet provider is spreading in local Telegram channels, signed by activists of the hacker group BO TEAM.
Meanwhile, Orion Telecom confirmed the existence of technical problems due to a powerful DDoS attack. They promise to restore access to the network by the end of the day.

As a result of the cyberattack, the following were disabled:
-
370 servers;
-
about 500 network switches.
Among other things, the hackers erased backups, which will complicate the provider’s restoration of operations.
Cyberattacks against Russia
Ukrainian cyber specialists are actively conducting offensive operations against Russia in cyberspace. The attacks are often aimed at disrupting the operation of government websites, financial institutions, transport infrastructure, and energy supply systems. For example, recently HUR hackers attacked the online system of the Russian Railways.
