Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, states that Russia has deployed elite units to the Kursk direction and is utilizing fiber-optic drones to gain a tactical advantage.

"Our operation in the Kursk direction is ongoing. The enemy is holding its best units here, which it had planned to deploy in the east," Syrskyi said on his official Telegram channel.

He added that Ukraine's Defense Forces continue to inflict significant losses on Russian troops and are successfully defending the northern border.

"At the same time, the enemy has an advantage in using fiber-optic drones, which significantly complicates efforts to counter them," Syrskyi noted.

Situation at Ukraine's border

On May 27, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia's main troop concentrations are currently focused in the Kursk region. The goal, he said, is to force Ukrainian units out and prepare for a possible offensive toward the Sumy region.

Two days later, Ukraine's State Border Guard Service reported that Russia had been stockpiling forces in the Kursk region for several months. It now has enough troops there to launch an assault on the Sumy region.

As of May 30, the situation along the border with Sumy remains tense. Evacuations are underway, and the conditions along the front line are continuously shifting. For more details, read RBC-Ukraine's report.
