Ukraine's army chief on front line situation: 115 positions regained in April

April was difficult for Ukrainian defenders, especially along four main directions. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to hold the front and reclaim over a hundred of their positions, according to a statement from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
"This was another difficult month in a war that has been going on for 11 years in total. But we maintained the resilience of our defenses, prevented critical losses, and stopped enemy breakthroughs," said the Commander-in-Chief following a meeting on the performance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in April.
Syrskyi noted that the Defense Forces are focusing their main efforts on containing the Russian aggressor in the most threatening directions — primarily the Sumy, Kursk, Pokrovsk, and Novopavlivka directions.
"At the same time, we are using a tactic of active defense: thanks to these actions, our soldiers managed to reclaim a total of 115 positions over the course of the month," Syrskyi emphasized.
Artillery and aviation efforts
The Commander-in-Chief also noted the active engagement of Ukrainian artillery, aviation, drone systems, and other components of integrated firepower.
In April alone, DeepStrike assets struck 62 targets on Russian territory. These strikes helped destroy military facilities and undermine the capabilities of the aggressor’s military-industrial complex.
"It was another month of expanding our UAV operations, optimizing the command system of the Armed Forces, and strengthening personnel training," the Commander-in-Chief stated.
Unit formation
As Syrskyi noted, the scaling up of units into brigades with enhanced drone capabilities continues. The recruitment of priority assault regiments remains ongoing.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are continuing the transition to a corps-based system. The management of the new army corps and the Airborne Corps has been established, and their formation is nearing completion. Emphasis is being placed on centralized training and combat experience.
"All of this is happening on the move, in conditions of intense combat. But we have no choice but to strengthen the Ukrainian military and resist the enemy. We stand firm," Syrskyi emphasized.
Success of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in March
In March, Syrskyi reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine significantly increased the effectiveness of unmanned systems on the front line.
According to him, the use of drones allows the Defense Forces of Ukraine to effectively strike the enemy and its equipment, particularly artillery, while most importantly preserving the lives of our soldiers.
As a result, in March of this year, UAVs of various types destroyed more than 77,000 enemy targets, which is 10 percent more than in February.
