Following Ukraine's attack on the night of May 23, fires broke out in Novorossiysk at key Russian oil facilities used for military logistics, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
One of the main targets was the Sheskharis oil terminal in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai, Russia. The General Staff confirmed a direct hit and a fire at the site.
Sheskharis is one of Russia’s largest oil terminals on the Black Sea and is part of the Transneft system. The facility is used for the transshipment of oil and petroleum products, as well as for supplying the needs of the Russian army.
A storage tank complex known as Grushova was also hit in the Novorossiysk area. A fire was reported following the attack.
According to the General Staff, the oil depot is an important part of the Sheskharis complex and is used for the storage and transportation of oil and fuel.
In addition, Ukrainian forces struck a base area for ships belonging to Russia's shadow fleet in the Black Sea. The tanker CHRYSALIS was confirmed to have been hit.
Other Ukrainian strikes
Ukrainian forces also targeted Russian communication hubs in Krasnorichenske in the Luhansk region and Smile in the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as a logistics supply warehouse in Frolivske.
In Donetsk region, Ukrainian forces struck an ammunition depot in Prechystivka.
"The Defense Forces of Ukraine will continue to systematically take measures to weaken the military-economic potential of the Russian occupiers and force Russia to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine," the General Staff said.
As a reminder, on the night of April 5, drones attacked Novorossiysk, after which a fire broke out near the Sheskharis oil terminal. Explosions were also reported at a Transneft facility servicing large oil tankers.
Later, Bloomberg reported that after that attack, the Sheskharis terminal stood idle for five days, contributing to a drop in Russia’s maritime oil exports to their lowest level in eight months.
