Ukraine has returned more than 9 thousand of its citizens from Russian captivity. Among them are hundreds of civilians illegally detained by Russia, according to Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets in parliament.
How many people were freed
In total, 9,048 citizens of Ukraine were returned from Russian captivity. Among them:
- 452 — civilians;
- Rest — prisoners of war.
According to him, in 2025, Ukraine maintained direct contacts with the Russian side. Thanks to this, it was possible to transfer prisoners in Russia:
- About 5 thousand packages with warm clothes and medical supplies;
- About 5 thousand letters.
More than a thousand Ukrainians — both military personnel and civilians — have remained in Russian captivity since 2022. According to a representative of the Coordination Headquarters, their resources are exhausted, so their return is a priority.
Previously announced large-scale 1,000 for 1,000 exchange has still not taken place — Lubinets directly stated that Ukraine has already handed over lists, and the delay is exclusively on Russia's side.
