Ukraine needs solutions to strengthen protection and plan defense for 2027. Partners can help with air defense missiles right now, according to a statement by Ukrainian Minister of Defense Yevhenii Khmara.
Ukraine appeals to partners
Khmara addressed representatives of the defense ministries of the E5 countries:
- Germany;
- UK;
- France;
- Poland;
- Italy.
"The first critical priority is air defense. Ukraine already has contracts for future deliveries of interceptor missiles and proposes an exchange to partners: transfer part of the missiles from existing stocks now in exchange for supplies that are scheduled to arrive in Ukraine later," said the minister.
Yevhenii Khmara called on partners to consider transferring 10% of their existing stocks of interceptors to Ukraine, including missiles for Patriot and IRIS-T systems, which Ukraine is contracting using EU credit funds.
"Man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) to counter jet-powered drones are also critically needed. Ukraine is counting on financing for new purchases and on the transfer of systems from partners' existing stocks," Khmara stated.
Ukrainian drones
The second priority is unmanned systems. Ukraine can double drone production in 2027 if funding is provided in a timely manner.
"We propose not just increasing purchases, but scaling up joint production of Ukrainian drones in other countries," Khmara assured.
This will allow:
- Increasing production;
- Providing Ukraine with the necessary drones;
- Strengthening the defense capabilities of partners.
Monitoring systems of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense have recorded the restoration of military Starlink speeds to over 400 km/h, Khmara stated.
Furthermore, Ukraine is striking Russian launchers - hits on such targets have been recorded. This was reported by Minister of Defense Yevhenii Khmara.
