On the night of November 12, Russia launched a massive air attack on Ukraine, deploying 110 Shahed drones. Ukraine's air defense forces successfully destroyed 46 enemy targets, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

Overall, at night, Russian troops:

  • fired an S-300 anti-aircraft guided missile at Kharkiv from the Belgorod region;
  • launched two Kh-59/69 guided missiles from the Kursk region, targeting the Chernihiv oblast;
  • used guided aerial bombs to shell the Sumy and Kharkiv regions;
  • launched 110 Shahed drones, along with drones of unspecified types, from areas near Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Bryansk in Russia.

Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile forces, aviation, electronic warfare units, and mobile firing teams were involved to repel the Russian air attack.

As of 11:00 a.m. Kyiv time:

  • 46 drones were confirmed shot down across the Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Poltava, and other regions;
  • 60 drones were lost locally in various parts of Ukraine;
  • Two drones left Ukrainian airspace, moving towards Belarus.

Russian air attacks on Ukraine

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian cities and villages have faced constant shellings from Russian forces, who employ a variety of weaponry — from missiles and guided bombs to kamikaze drones —often targeting critical infrastructure and residential areas.

In recent months, the intensity of nighttime drone attacks has increased, posing new air defense challenges for Ukraine.

On November 11, Russian forces worked out the tactics of launching missiles with imitation. According to the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), Russia appears to be prepared for further large-scale shellings.
