Since October, Ukraine has been receiving new satellite images captured by SAR satellites. This is possible due to the collaboration between Rheinmetall defense company and satellite operator ICEYE, according to Rheinmetall's press service.

The German defense company Rheinmetall reminded that it signed a contract with Ukraine to expand its access to SAR satellite imagery from ICEYE.

“Since early October 2024, Ukraine receives new satellite images taken by ICEYE's SAR satellites, under the collaboration between Rheinmetall and ICEYE. This provision will supplement further reconnaissance data obtained by other sensors and provide the basis for decision-making and operational planning by the Ukrainian armed forces,” Rheinmetall stated.

This partnership gives Ukraine access to the entire fleet of ICEYE radar satellites.

What is the peculiarity of ICEYE satellites

According to Rheinmetall, ICEYE’s SAR satellites can generate high-resolution images regardless of weather conditions or time of day.

These satellites can capture highly detailed images, enabling the identification of even the smallest objects on Earth.

The German company explained that this can provide critical advantages for the Armed Forces in surveillance, target acquisition, reconnaissance, or positioning on the battlefield.

Ukraine has received SAR satellite images since 2022, when the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation purchased one of the satellites.
