Ukraine receives another €1 billion from EU at expense of Russian assets

Ukraine received another tranche of aid from the European Union. The state budget received €1 billion under the ERA Loan program, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal says.
This tranche was financed from the proceeds of the Russian central bank's immobilized assets.
"The funds will be used for key state budget expenditures," he wrote.
This is the fifth tranche of macro-financial assistance from the EU under the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine (ERA) initiative. In total, Ukraine has already received €7 billion from the European Union under the ERA initiative.
"This is not just financial support - it is a clear signal: Europe is strengthening our defense and economic resilience in the face of increased missile attacks and destabilization attempts," added Shmyhal.
ERA program
ERA envisages $50 billion in funding from the G7 countries to Ukraine, of which the EU's contribution is €18.1 billion ($20 billion).
"In 2025, the European Union has provided EUR 10.5 billion in direct budget support to Ukraine – the largest contribution among all international partners," said Finance Minister of Ukraine Serhii Marchenko.
According to the Ministry of Finance, since February 2022, the European Union has been the largest provider of direct budgetary assistance to Ukraine, with €52.5 billion for priority state budget expenditures.
International assistance
The National Bank of Ukraine expects that this year, Ukraine will receive record amounts of external financial assistance (about $55 billion), primarily due to the faster transfer of tranches under the ERA Loans program.
This year's significant inflows will also allow Ukraine to increase its international reserves to USD 58 billion and further ensure the stability of the foreign exchange market.
