Germany today, on August 30, reported the transfer of a new package of military aid to Ukraine. It includes 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks, according to the official page of the German government.

The new package of assistance includes:

  • 10 Leopard 1A5 battle tanks
  • 1 TRML-4D radar
  • 16 Vector reconnaissance unmanned systems
  • 4 heavy duty trailer trucks HX81
  • Over 13 million rounds of ammunition for small arms

According to the government, these supplies are sourced from industry stocks funded by German security enhancement funds.

On August 24, Ukraine received Patriot SAM missiles and drone detection systems from Germany.

Leopard tanks

Ukraine receives two types of tanks from Germany - Leopard 1 and Leopard 2, each with different modifications.

Leopard 1 It is equipped with a rifled 105mm gun Royal Ordnance L7A3 with an ammunition load of 60 rounds. Its firing range reaches up to 3,000 meters. The tank also features additional armament - a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and an additional 7.62mm machine gun on the turret.

However, the weak point of this tank is its defense - it is equipped with homogeneous armor ranging from 10mm to 70mm. Developers believe that highly effective cumulative ammunition will diminish the importance of armor, hence they focused on the striking power and maneuverability of the vehicle.

Its weight is 42 tons, its engine power is 830 horsepower, and the maximum speed is up to 65 km/h.

Leopard 2

This tank serves as the main armament for German forces and other NATO countries. Leopard 2 is considered one of the best combat vehicles in the world, boasting high reliability and excellent firepower.

Its combat weight ranges from 50.5 to 63 tons, highway speed reaches up to 72 km/h, and the ammunition load consists of 42 rounds.

The most common version, Leopard 2A4, is equipped with an automatic fire extinguishing system, a digital fire control system, and an improved turret with titanium-tungsten armor.

Germany's assistance

Germany is one of the leading countries providing aid to our armed forces. Berlin has supplied various types of artillery, both older and newer models of Leopard tanks, IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems, ammunition, vehicles, drones, and other types of weaponry.

In the assistance package received on August 9, Germany also provided Ukraine with two Patriot SAM launcher systems.
