Ukraine receives 1,000 fallen soldiers bodies in latest exchange

Ukraine and Russia carried out another round of exchanges of the bodies of the fallen on January 29. As part of the exchange, another 1,000 bodies belonging to fallen servicemen of Ukraine's Defense Forces were returned, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
It is noted that as part of repatriation measures, 1,000 bodies of the fallen were returned to Ukraine. According to the Russian side, they belong to Ukrainian servicemen.
"Investigators from law enforcement agencies, together with expert institutions of Ukraine, will carry out all necessary measures aimed at identifying the repatriated fallen," the statement said.
The return of the bodies of the fallen is the result of the joint work of several agencies, including the Coordination Headquarters, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the State Emergency Service, and others. The bodies will now be transported to storage facilities, where they will be kept during the identification process.

The previous exchange of the bodies of fallen servicemen took place on December 19, 2025. At that time, another 1,003 bodies of the fallen were transferred to Ukraine. According to Russia, they belong to Ukrainian servicemen.
Before that, several more exchanges took place. On November 20, the Russian side transferred another 1,000 bodies to Ukraine, and earlier, on October 23, another 1,000 bodies of the fallen that may have belonged to Ukrainian servicemen were also returned. In exchange, Russia received the remains of its own fallen soldiers.
