Ukraine ready to share blackout management strategies with Spain and Portugal

Ukraine has extensive experience in dealing with large-scale power outages. Therefore, it is ready to share its knowledge and experience with Spain and Portugal, which have been affected by a recent blackout, stated Ukraine's Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko.
As significant power outages have affected Spain and Portugal, the Ukrainian Energy Minister offered support to the countries in addressing this crisis.
Galushchenko stated that Ukraine is ready to assist in restoring the stable operation of energy networks for its partners and allies in Europe.
"We are ready to share the knowledge and experience, including those gained during the systematic Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure. We are grateful to the EU countries for their support and we are always here to provide assistance," the Minister emphasized.
Blackout in Europe
On Monday, April 28, reports emerged from several European countries about widespread power outages.
Power supply issues were reported in Spain, Portugal, Andorra, and also in one region of France. According to the latest information, further outages were recorded in Belgium.
The scale of the blackout is estimated to be one of the largest in modern European history, with more than 10 GW of demand being cut off after noon local time.
At this time, the official cause of the blackout remains unknown. However, Spain's two largest electricity companies, Endesa and Iberdrola, are already investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, Portugal's national electricity company, REN, has suggested that the problem might be related to a fire in southwestern France, on Alaric mountain.
Investigation of a possible cyberattack
The power supply issues led to the temporary paralysis of essential infrastructure such as train stations, airports, and shops.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez convened an emergency meeting with government officials and national grid representatives, while the National Cybersecurity Institute of Spain is investigating the possibility of a cyberattack being the cause of the incident.
