Ukraine is ready to compromise to achieve its goal and become a member of the European Union, says Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov.

Commenting on the statement of the President of Hungary, Viktor Orban, regarding Budapest's blocking of the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU until Hungarian demands regarding language and education are met, Danilov stated that, for the sake of Ukraine's accession, the country was ready to make compromises.

"As for Orban's statement, you heard the statement from our Deputy Prime Minister Stefanishyna, who is directly involved in this matter. We are ready to make certain compromises on this issue to achieve the larger goal and become EU members... The relevant legislative acts have already been prepared. Moreover, I believe they will be adopted to prevent Hungary from speculating on certain issues," Danilov noted.

The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council also expresses confidence that if Ukraine fulfills the EU requirements in a short period, the European community will not oppose accession.

"It must be a democratic free country where human rights, laws, norms, and rules that are the same for everyone are respected. Then we will quickly meet the criteria that exist in the EU by 100%," said Danilov.

Position of Hungary on Ukraine's EU membership

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, stated that his country opposed Ukraine's accession to the EU until the war with Russia was concluded. According to him, Ukraine's membership may bring the war into the EU, which no one wants.

He also mentioned that Hungary didn't support the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Meanwhile, Ukraine hopes that EU countries will support the beginning of accession negotiations on December 14, during the summit of leaders of all member countries.
