Ukraine pushes back Russian forces in Kharkiv region, ISW says

On August 2 and 3, Russian forces continued their offensive in the Kupiansk direction, but Ukraine's Defense Forces launched counterattacks in the area. In addition, Ukrainian forces are conducting their own offensive operation, according to a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Russian military bloggers are once again claiming that Russian forces have advanced in Kupiansk.
They claim that Russian forces have taken positions in the central part of the city, south of Radkivka, in the northern part of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, and west of that settlement. They also say that Ukrainian forces are counterattacking from the outskirts of Kupiansk and that fighting is continuing over the bridge across the Oskil River in Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi.
According to the American analysts, there is currently no evidence confirming Russian advances in this sector of the front.
On August 3, Ukrainian military analyst Yuriy Butusov said that a Russian 2S44 Giatsint-K wheeled self-propelled artillery system had been destroyed in the Kupiansk direction. He also said that this was the second confirmed destruction of the system since the start of the full-scale invasion.
Volodymyr Dehtyaryov, spokesperson for the Khartiia 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine, said that the Defense Forces are conducting two operations simultaneously in the Kharkiv region:

A defensive operation north and east of Kharkiv;

An offensive operation in the Kupiansk direction.
Dehtiarov also explained that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to push Russian forces away from the state border and maintain full fire control over Kupiansk and the ground routes the enemy uses to bring in reinforcements.
The Khartiia spokesperson added that Russian forces lack manpower in this sector of the front. Therefore, there is no need to fear a breakthrough of Ukraine's defenses in the Kharkiv region.
Despite this, Russian forces are actively using guided aerial bombs because the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not yet have sufficient capabilities to destroy the aircraft carrying out such strikes.
Earlier, Ukrainian air defenses repelled a new Russian attack during the night of August 4.
Ukrainian ambassadors also received an important anti-ballistic defense task from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In addition, updated estimates of Ukraine's and Russia's losses in the war have been released.
