Ukraine finalized a partnership agreement with the United States on rare earth metals. The draft memorandum was handed over to the American side, according to the Ukrainian delegation in Munich.

During a phone call on Wednesday, presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump agreed that Ukraine would finalize the draft memorandum of partnership and hand it over to the American side.

“Ukraine handed over the document and the American side asked for time until 5 p.m. to work it out,” the Ukrainian delegation said.

Partnership agreement

This week, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent visited Ukraine. He brought to Kyiv a partnership agreement that will include economic cooperation between the two countries.

The partnership agreement had to be finalized before the approval. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a consensus on the agreement could be reached at the Munich Security Conference.

According to the New York Post, Ukraine has agreed to provide the United States with rare earth metals worth $500 billion which can be considered as payment for the military assistance provided to Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that it was important to protect Ukraine so that rare earths and other minerals would not go to the Russians for free. He emphasized that such an agreement would be beneficial for both Ukraine and American companies investing in mining.

Rare earth metals are a group of 17 metals that are important for producing electronics and technology. Ukraine has reserves of graphite, uranium, titanium, and lithium that are strategically valuable.
