Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak met with the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy, who arrived in Kyiv, according to Yermak’s statement.

The conversation began with condolences to Ukrainians affected by attacks and quickly moved on to specific issues: investments in energy, infrastructure, and the agricultural sector, as well as humanitarian aid and prisoner exchanges, through which more than 2,000 Ukrainians have returned home.

"We discussed ways to consolidate international efforts to achieve a just peace. The UAE has already provided significant humanitarian assistance and, importantly, has facilitated prisoner exchanges, thanks to which more than 2,000 of our people have returned home," Yermak said.

According to him, the minister —a mother of three —deeply understands the pain of Ukrainians.

Prisoner exchange

On October 2, Ukraine and Russia carried out another prisoner exchange. 185 defenders returned home.

These were soldiers of:

  • The Armed Forces,

  • The National Guard,

  • The State Border Guard Service.

They defended Mariupol, Azovstal, and the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Most of them had been in captivity since 2022. Along with the soldiers, 20 civilians also returned.

It is noted that the latest prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia was a combined one:

  • One part took place under the Istanbul agreements,

  • The other was the 69th exchange overall.

More photos and details of the prisoner exchange can be found in the RBC-Ukraine report.
