An AI assistant called Lapathoniia has been launched in Ukraine, built on the basis of domestic large language models. The entire project infrastructure is hosted in Ukrainian data centers, ensuring full control and data security, according to a LinkedIn post by Ukrainian developers.

Ukrainian AI that stays within the country

Lapathoniia Chat runs on De Novo cloud infrastructure. This means all user data physically remains within Ukraine and is not transferred to foreign servers. The project is positioned as a demo service designed to showcase the real potential of Ukrainian LLMs in a standard chat format.

Developers emphasize that the model’s capabilities are best evaluated through interaction rather than abstract benchmark tables. Users can already test file handling, web search, model “memory,” and complex analytical tasks.

Advantages of the Ukrainian development

  • OpenAI-compatible API: users can change the base_url and use a familiar OpenAI SDK
  • Ukrainian language optimization: models are adapted for queries, context, and product-related tasks
  • Streaming support: real-time text generation for interactive applications
  • Access control: API keys, budgets, and limits for teams and test integrations
  • Up to 32,000 tokens per request, including input context and response

The infrastructure and beta service data are fully hosted in Ukraine.

Access to MamayLM and Lapa LLM models

In the current release, users have access to two domestic language models: MamayLM and Lapa LLM. The team plans to significantly expand this list in the future.

It is important to note that the project is being implemented with the support of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems at Lviv Polytechnic National University.

“Today, the development of Ukrainian AI technologies is extremely important, and the emergence of such initiatives helps form a domestic technological ecosystem and create solutions focused on the Ukrainian context and needs,” the Polytechnic stated.

Stages of AI development

At the moment, the service is operating in closed beta testing mode. The team is collecting feedback on response speed, contextual accuracy, and interface usability.

To gain access, users need to send a short description of their task and the name of their company to the developers’ email address.
