Ukraine joins EU sanctions on Iran over support for Russia

Ukraine has joined the European Union's decision on sanctions against Iran. The restrictive measures are linked, in particular, to Tehran's military support for Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, according to Interfax-Ukraine.
The corresponding statement by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas was published on the official portal of the European External Action Service (EEAS).
The document concerns the accession of partner states to the EU's restrictive measures in connection with Iran's military support for Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, as well as for armed groups in the Middle East and the Red Sea region.
Which countries have joined
The statement says that a number of states have joined the EU Council decision. These include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, and Ukraine.
"Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, and Ukraine align themselves with this Council decision. They will ensure that their national policies conform to this decision. The European Union takes note of this commitment and welcomes it," the statement by Kaja Kallas reads.
Thus, Ukraine has undertaken to align its national policy with the relevant EU Council decision.
What is known about the sanctions against Iran and Russia
The US is attempting to dismantle a network of currency exchange offices and shell companies in Iran. Washington has imposed sanctions on several banks, exchange structures, and financiers.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has given diplomats a deadline regarding sanctions against Russian missile manufacturers. The president emphasized that this is a direct task for Ukrainian diplomacy and promised to personally raise the issue during negotiations.
At the end of July, Kyiv also imposed restrictions on 23 Russian defense companies. Each enterprise that loses access to components, technology, or funding will produce fewer ballistic missiles and drones.
