Russia has stopped launching Kalibr missiles at Ukraine from the sea. This has been the case for over five months, according to a statement by Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk.
Russia does not launch Kalibr missiles from the sea
Russia has ceased launching Kalibr missiles directly from the Black Sea. Although enemy aviation remains quite active over the water area, aircraft and helicopters stay 100 km away from Ukrainian defense forces, Pletenchuk said.
The Russian Black Sea Fleet, based in Novorossiysk, has not ventured into the Black Sea for five consecutive months, the navy spokesperson noted.
Therefore, Kalibr launches are now conducted from the harbor, which is very dangerous for the Russians themselves, Pletenchuk clarified.
"They say that Russian ships are being sunk in the Black Sea... So, accordingly, they probably decided it is better to launch missiles from their own harbor, despite the fact that if it detonates, there will be hell to pay in the harbor," Pletenchuk said.
He stated that the enemy still uses sea-based cruise missiles. Meanwhile, submarine carriers have proven limited - they do not conduct launches from the harbor and do not go out to sea.
The consequences of the August 12 attack on the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk became known. Two frigates of the Black Sea Fleet were damaged.
Furthermore, in Novorossiysk, on the night of September 9, Ukrainian forces struck the frigate Admiral Essen. It is a carrier of Kalibr missiles, which Russia uses against Ukraine.
