Ukraine fires back after Iran threatens attacks on its territory

Iran is a direct accomplice in Russia’s war against Ukraine, so it will not be able to play the role of a victim. Kyiv is currently awaiting a clear response from the international community, says Ukraine's acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha.
"Iran’s threats are unjustified and groundless. The regime in Teheran is a direct accomplice to Russian aggression against Ukraine, fuelling Moscow’s criminal war with weapons that have killed Ukrainians since 2022," Sybiha emphasizes.
He also calls on the Iranian regime to stop playing the victim and to refrain from justifying its threats with absurd references to the UN Charter.
"With its statements, Iran also tries to shift attention away from Russia’s terror against civilian shipping in the Black Sea, which is threatening global food security. But it will not succeed," the acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister explains.
The diplomat also assures that it is precisely Russia’s attacks on freedom of navigation that will be the main topic of the UN Security Council’s emergency meeting. It will take place on July 27.
"We expect strong responses by the international community," Sybiha concludes.
Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian vessel
On July 26, the Iranian Foreign Ministry publicly accused Ukraine of attacking their allegedly commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea.
Tehran also began claiming that one sailor was killed and another was wounded as a result of the strike.
On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian Defense Forces had achieved very good results in long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea.
According to him, the strike targeted a vessel used to transport military cargo to Russia.
Later, Ukraine's Ambassador to Israel, Yevhen Korniichuk, revealed new details of the operation and threatened Iran with further strikes.
