Ukraine faces night attack by Shahed: Destruction details revealed
On the night of Thursday, October 5, Russian forces launched 29 Shahed kamikaze drones against Ukraine. Twenty-four of them were shot down by air defense, especially over three southern regions, reports the Ukrainian Air Force.
While preparing the material, sources used include the Telegram channel of the Ukrainian Air Force, the Telegram channel of the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim, and the Telegram channel of the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine.
"On the night of October 5, the occupiers attacked Ukraine with Shahed-type strike UAVs from the south, Cape Chauda (Crimea). In total, the launches of 29 strike UAVs were recorded," said the Air Force's statement.
In particular, with the forces and means of the Air Force, in cooperation with the air defense of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, 24 Shahed-131/136 were destroyed within the borders of Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad regions.
Mykolaiv region
As reported by the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaliy Kim, on the night of October 5, over the Mykolaiv region, air defense forces destroyed 10 Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs.
Kirovohrad and Odesa regions
According to the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, over the Odesa region this night, air defense forces shot down 5 kamikaze drones, and over the Kirovohrad region - 9.
Aftermath of the attack
Military sources add that the enemy continues trying to destroy the port and other infrastructure in the south and is terrorizing central regions.
"Unfortunately, there was a hit on infrastructure in the Kirovohrad region. The resulting fire was quickly contained, and there have been no reports of casualties," added the Southern Defense Forces Telegram channel.
Shelling of Ukraine on October 5
On October 5, Russian forces launched Shahed drones against Ukraine from multiple directions and in several groups. Reports of kamikaze drones were received from the Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Kirovohrad regions.
During the night, explosions were heard in Kropyvnytskyi and Myrnohrad of the Poltava region.
As pointed out by the spokesperson for the Operational Command South, Natalia Humeniuk, most of the Shaheds are launched by the enemy from the south, possibly due to the convenient location of bases and logistics considerations for drone transport.
