Ukraine extends martial law and mobilization: New time frame revealed
Martial law and mobilization in Ukraine will be extended once again. The extension is likely to last at least until November 9, 2024, according to Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a member of the Voice faction, in a Telegram post.
According to the parliamentarian, it is expected that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will submit two bills to the Verkhovna Rada concerning the extension of martial law and general mobilization.
The MP stated that voting in the parliamentary committee and the Rada will likely take place next week, possibly between July 22 and 25. As a result, both martial law and mobilization could be extended for an additional 90 days, until November 9, 2024.
This will mark the 12th vote by the Verkhovna Rada on extending martial law and mobilization.
Martial law and mobilization
On the first day of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine imposed martial law across the entire country and announced general mobilization.
Martial law is a special legal regime necessary for authorities and the military to have broader powers to protect the country from the enemy. Mobilization is aimed at recruiting military reservists into the defense forces.
In May 2024, both martial law and mobilization were extended for 90 days, until August 11, 2024.
