In autumn 2026, Ukraine will have its own FP-9 ballistic missile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, Reuters reports.
This week, Ukraine announced the first combat use of its own domestically produced ballistic missile, the FP-7. It has a range of about 250 km.
According to Zelenskyy, he recently called representatives of Fire Point to urge them to complete the development of the longer-range FP-9 model as quickly as possible.
The manufacturers make no secret of the fact that this Ukrainian ballistic missile will be capable of reaching Moscow.
"I said to them (Fire Point — ed.), where is my FP-9? We need the FP-9. And the FP-9 will be (ready - ed.) this autumn, I'm sure," Zelenskyy said with a grin.
What is currently known about the FP-9
The FP-9 is a Ukrainian ballistic missile being developed by defense company Fire Point. As of October 2026, it is still a relatively new system, and some of its specifications remain classified. The following is currently known:
- Type: ballistic missile.
- Developer: Fire Point.
- Reported range: up to 850–855 km.
- Warhead: up to 800 kg.
- Speed: 2.2 km/s.
- Launch: from a mobile ground-based launcher.
- Length: about 9.5 m; diameter: up to 1.1 m.
The FP-9 is often compared with the US ATACMS and Russia's Iskander-M.
Fire Point is also accelerating work on an air defense system, with an anti-ballistic system expected this year.
