The Netherlands and Denmark have become the eighth and ninth countries to join the international Drone Deal agreement. The move will enable joint drone production and the development of cutting-edge technologies, according to a statement by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially signed the agreements with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The documents were signed during a meeting of the leaders on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.
The Netherlands' accession to the Drone Deal opens up broad opportunities for the defense sectors of both countries. Areas of cooperation include:
- Joint drone production;
- Development of innovative defense technologies;
- Systematic exchange of experience and expertise.
In addition, the agreement will help promote the export of Ukrainian defense solutions that have already proven effective in real combat conditions.
"I thank Denmark, and Mette personally, for this step toward strengthening our common defense. It was with Denmark that we began co-production in Ukraine under the Danish model, and it is only fair that Denmark will now gain access to Ukrainian weapons exports that have been tested in war," Zelenskyy said.
What does the Drone Deal provide for?
The Drone Deal is a long-term international cooperation initiative launched by Ukraine to strengthen partnerships in the security and defense sector. The program combines Ukraine's battlefield experience, defense industry capabilities, and supply-chain logistics.
Under the Drone Deal, various projects may be implemented depending on the needs of partner countries. These include strengthening air defense systems, developing and scaling drone technologies, training military specialists, and jointly producing weapons.
The agreements are signed for a period of 10 years, ensuring long-term and predictable cooperation.
Earlier today, Ukraine and Estonia signed a Drone Deal agreement covering joint defense production, technology sharing, and the strengthening of air defense capabilities.
Rustem Umerov recently said that more than 20 countries are interested in joining Ukraine's Drone Deal initiative.
