Ukraine destroys dozens of Russian troops near Toretsk, eastern Donetsk region

Russian forces have intensified assault operations near the village of Yablunivka, located south of the city of Toretsk in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, according to Lieutenant Colonel Dmytro Zaporozhets, spokesperson for the Luhansk Operational Tactical Group (OTG), as reported by the United News national telethon.
According to him, the enemy is concentrating its efforts in this area, using motorized equipment and attempting to amass forces in forested and green areas in preparation for further assaults. However, Russian troops are being actively targeted and destroyed.
"There was a period when the situation here was unstable, but it is now under control. Our defenders are inflicting significant losses on the enemy. In just one day, the 36th Separate Marine Brigade eliminated 35 Russian soldiers near Yablunivka," Zaporozhets reported.
He added that Ukrainian forces are regularly destroying enemy assault groups and logistics, including targets deep behind enemy lines. Intelligence operations are also actively underway, involving the use of engineering countermeasures.
"We're working to disrupt and destroy the enemy's logistical activities, even in its rear areas," the officer said.
What we know about Toretsk
Before the outbreak of war in 2014, Toretsk (formerly known as Dzerzhynsk) was a city of around 35,000 residents with a vibrant industrial life. Its economy was largely based on coal mining, which provided employment for the majority of locals. The city's railway station also played a crucial role as a key logistical hub in the region.
Earlier reports indicated that the situation around Toretsk has been deteriorating. If Russian forces manage to seize the city, it could open the way for an advance toward the city of Kostyantynivka.
More details on the situation near Toretsk and other frontline directions in Ukraine can be found in the latest update from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
