By convening a UN Security Council meeting on weapons supplies to Ukraine, Russia is attempting to whitewash itself and deny responsibility for war crimes, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The delegation reminded that this will be the sixteenth Security Council meeting initiated by Russia to discuss the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine.

"The most absurd part of the Russian propaganda disseminated by the Russian delegation and its puppet “briefers” at such meetings has been the regular blame placed on the victim of its aggression for using weapons, including those supplied by Ukraine’s allies, to defend itself in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter," says the comment by the Delegation of Ukraine to the UN.

The Ukrainian delegation stated that Russian terrorists recently shelled the Okhmatdyt children's hospital, hit a playground in Mykolaiv, and attacked the office of a Swiss humanitarian organization in Kharkiv.

"We have already drawn attention to the clear trend when such missile strikes against Ukrainian cities happen on the eve of Russia-initiated meetings on 'weapon supplies'," stated the Delegation members.

They also called for the lifting of restrictions on all weapons provided to Ukraine. Because it "will also have a de-escalatory effect. This will save lives of Ukrainians, sober the aggressor and push the Kremlin towards acceptance of the logic of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace".

What preceded

Earlier, Ukraine convened an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the Russian terrorist attack on Okhmatdyt hospital.

During the meeting, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, claimed that the children's hospital was allegedly hit by the Ukrainian air defense missile.

He said that it was impossible to confuse this missile due to the easily recognizable missile fin assembly and other features.

However, just a week later, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov presented a fake version of events. According to him, the hospital was struck by debris from a Ukrainian air defense missile.

At the same time, videos released online show that the hospital was hit by a missile, not debris.
