Ukraine could offer its storage facilities for US gas, Foreign Minister says

Ukraine can provide its gas storage facilities for storing American gas. This will allow to strengthen the energy security of Europe, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha says at a joint press conference with UK Foreign Minister David Lammy.
"Our range of common interests and mutually beneficial cooperation is not limited to these strategic resources. For example, there is enormous potential, especially after the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine, in purchasing LNG gas from the United States," he said.
Sybiha recalled that Ukraine has powerful underground gas storage facilities. Which, according to him, there are also common points for mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthening the energy security of Europe.
".. because this gas will be enough if it is pumped into our storage facilities to play the role of a guarantor of energy security in Europe," the Foreign Minister emphasized.
The Minister also stated common interests and opportunities for American business, for example, in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
"This will be one of the largest projects of this century and, accordingly, one of the largest opportunities for our allies. There are also certainly frozen assets, there is also a field of interest for their use, including for the purchase of weapons for the needs of Ukraine," added Sybiha.
Ukraine's gas safe
On January 1, 2025, Ukraine officially stopped the transit of Russian gas to Europe and Moldova. Slovakia and Hungary opposed this.
After the transit was stopped, the Ukrainian government announced a new model for the operation of the gas transportation system. As Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal explained, Ukraine could become the so-called gas safe of Europe by providing its gas storage facilities.
Ukraine has already offered its gas storage facilities to Croatia. This idea was discussed by representatives of the governments of the two countries.
