Ukraine could be partitioned like Berlin after the Second World War as part of a peace deal, states Trump's special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.

The general suggested that British and French forces could take control of zones in the western part of the country as part of a peacekeeping force, while the Russian army would remain in the occupied east. In between, Ukrainian forces and a demilitarized zone would be positioned.

Kellogg stated that Anglo-French forces west of the Dnipro River, which divides Ukraine, would not be provocative to Moscow. According to him, Ukraine is large enough to accommodate multiple armies aimed at ensuring a ceasefire.

"You could almost make it look like what happened with Berlin after World War Two, when you had a Russian zone, a French zone, and a British zone, a US zone," he said.

Later, Kellogg explained that the US would not provide ground troops. He suggested implementing a demilitarized zone of 18 miles along existing lines of control in the east.

What else did Kellogg say

A few weeks ago, Keith Kellogg stated that Russia would not relinquish control over the occupied territories of Ukraine. However, he noted that they do not belong to Moscow legally and remain Ukrainian.

"And then you have to go back to what we call either de facto or de jure. De facto meaning, okay, you physically occupy the territory, they're not going to move off it. But you don't go to de jure and say, you've totally annexed it, we give it to you as a part of Russia. Those are the discussions that are going to have to take place," said a representative of the Trump team.

Additionally, at the beginning of April, Kellogg stated that Ukraine and Russia were close to a complete ceasefire. According to him, reaching this step requires the two countries to agree on terms.

Reuters reported today that Trump’s special representative, Steve Witkoff, told US President Donald Trump that the fastest path to peace in Ukraine would be to grant Russia ownership of four eastern Ukrainian regions — Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. This recommendation followed a meeting last week with Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

Today, Witkoff flew to Russia for talks with Dmitriev and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The discussions reportedly focused on a settlement of the situation in Ukraine.
