Ukraine boosts border guards in regions near Russia and Belarus - Zelenskyy
Ukraine continues to strengthen the defense of its borders with Russia and Belarus. The number of border guard personnel has been increased, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy paid a visit to the Volyn region, where he held a coordination meeting on the security situation and state border protection.
Among other things, the President got acquainted with the work at one of the strongholds in the Volyn region. He inspected the arrangement of trenches, firing positions, positions, and dugouts.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine has built anti-tank ditches, barrier fences, and platoon strongholds with firing positions. Reinforced concrete structures and protective structures for sheltering personnel have been installed in the areas of possible movement.
“We have strong protection both in terms of personnel and defensive lines. We have also increased the number of border guards in all regions bordering Russia and Belarus. And we continue to strengthen it,” the President says.
Situation in border regions of Ukraine
The situation on Ukraine's border remains tense, as Russian forces regularly use sabotage and reconnaissance groups (SRGs) to attack the border areas of Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv regions.
In early July, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported fighting in the Zhuravka area of Sumy region. The Sumy Regional Military Administration confirmed that events similar to the recent battle in Zhuravka had already taken place before. Russian subversive reconnaissance groups repeatedly tried to capture the village of Lukashivka, but their attacks suffered serious losses.
As for the Kharkiv region, Russia tried to create another point of tension in the north of the region, in particular in the village of Sotnytsia Kozachok, where an attempted Russian subversive group invasion was made.
