Ukraine awaits EU decision on approving accession negotiating framework, Zelenskyy
Ukraine awaits the decision of the EU Council regarding the approval of the negotiating framework for accession to the European Union, according to the evening address of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President reminded that yesterday, on March 12, the European Commission approved the negotiating framework for Ukraine's accession to the EU.
"Next, we are waiting for the decision of European leaders on its approval. It will be an important and strong signal for both Ukraine and the entire European community to do everything possible to start negotiations as early as during the Belgian presidency in the first half of this year," Zelenskyy said.
He emphasized that this should be our common pace - both for Ukraine and the European Union.
"We have a clear sequence of steps and, I am confident that we can achieve the result," added the head of state.
Negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU
In December 2023, the leaders of EU member states at the summit in Brussels approved the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
In fact, the accession negotiations have not yet begun. For this, among other things, the European Commission needed to formulate framework conditions.
Yesterday, on March 12, the European Commission approved the negotiating framework for Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
As stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine by the EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova, negotiations could start in the spring.
