The international community must respond to Russia’s brutal massive strike on Ukraine on the night of August 28. In particular, this also applies to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries, whose leaders will gather in the coming days, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The MFA reminded that as of now, 15 people are known to have been killed, including four children. The death or injury of children is the gravest crime, carrying the heaviest punishment.

"The international community cannot remain a silent witness to the murder of children by Russian criminals. Every country, every leader, every international organization must respond decisively to this barbarism with a principled public position and concrete actions," the ministry stated.

The MFA emphasized that such a terrorist attack on Ukraine proves that Russia completely disregards the efforts of the international community to restore peace. The ministry called on all states of the world to condemn this attack and take concrete steps to help stop the killings.

In particular, Ukraine expects a response from the countries of Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific region, which have repeatedly called for peace, restraint, and a ceasefire.

"We also call on the participants of the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on 31 August – 1 September to express their clear position on this attack and to show that they respect the principles of international law, do not tolerate Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, and the killing of Ukrainian children," the MFA emphasized.

The Ukrainian ministry also called on its allies to help strengthen air defense and provide weapons for strikes on Russian military facilities that the aggressor state uses for such terrorist attacks.

SCO Summit

From August 31 to September 1, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit will be held in the Chinese city of Tianjin.

In particular, Russian leader Vladimir Putin will take part in the summit. China stated that the purpose of this meeting is to demonstrate the unity of the Global South.
