Ukraine held the fourth round of talks with the United States on signing a bilateral agreement on security guarantees, according to the press service of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The talks were chaired by the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.
“I am grateful to the negotiation teams for the work they have already done - there has been significant progress in approving the text of the document. We need to speed up the process to finalize the bilateral security agreement this month,” Yermak said.
According to the Presidential Office, the parties discussed the most fundamental points of the agreement and the formulation of a number of issues.
Also during the talks, the participants determined the date of the next round.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Ukraine has been negotiating a security guarantees agreement with the United States since last year. The dialogue was suspended while Congress was unable to pass a funding bill to help Ukraine.
Recently, the dialogue resumed. The third round took place on April 29. At that time, the Presidential Office noted significant progress in the agreement preparation process.
Ukraine has already signed security guarantee agreements with a number of Western countries. Among them are Britain, Germany, France, and others.
